Leadership of the Authority

The Niger Riverways & Maritime Authority was established to secure the country's benefit in international sea transport and maritime affairs.

Office of the Commissioner

A strong institution for a landlocked nation

The Niger Riverways and Maritime Authority was established to ensure the benefit of the country in international sea transport and maritime issues. As Niger is a landlocked nation, it must have a strong institution to ensure efficient sea-port utilisation.

NRMA is therefore working to build competitive river ports and maritime capacity across all corridors of the country. Benin and Nigeria currently serve as Niger's primary gateway on any one transit route.

In principle, Niger is entitled to sea access under international law and can employ diplomatic, legal and economic strategies to safeguard this right — while working practically to make use of the region's untapped potential.
